TWO-WEEK INTENSIVE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Learn Russian in the EU offers a two-week intensive Russian program in Daugavpils, Latvia. This program runs in January and August. It is designed for students who want to quickly advance their Russian while also gaining an introduction to the city and everyday life in this predominantly Russian-speaking environment.

The program emphasizes developing practical communication skills, strengthening vocabulary, and improving grammatical accuracy. In addition to classroom instruction and daily communication practice with language partners, participants benefit from daily immersion in a Rusian-speaking community, making it an ideal refresher and preparation before starting a new university semester.

Citizens of the USA, European Union, Great Britain, and many other countries need no visa to enter Latvia.

Russian language level placement

In standard study abroad programs, Learn Russian in the EU provides Russian language instruction at three levels, depending on the program

Intermediate Low

Students with ACTFL Novice Mid/Novice High, or at CEFR A1+/A2, or after three full semesters of university level Russian language study

Intermediate

Students with at least ACTFL Intermediate Low, or at CEFR A2+/B1, or after 3-5 full semesters of university level Russian language study

Recommendations:

  • Student may provide a placement recommendation from the home university.

Placement testing results:

  • Written online grammar test (30 minutes).
  • Placement interview conducted online or on the first day of classes.

In-class performance upon arrival:

  • After several first days in the classroom, the language instructors may recommend changing the initially assigned language level.

Learn Russian in the EU language instructors make the decision on the Russian language course level assigned to the student. Since the instructors have accumulated vast experience in teaching international students, their decisions are optimal and ensure the student will make maximum progress.

    Russian is the primary language of instruction. All language, literature, and courses are taught in Russian.

    Natural Sciences/STEM instructors are English- and Russian-speaking Daugavpils University professors. The language of instruction varies from English-only to English/Russian mix and up to Russian-only, depending on the instructor and the course.

  • How the classes are organized?

    Learn Russian in the EU forms study groups exclusively from international students. Thus, your classmates will be of a similar background and with similar training objectives.

    Elective courses may be delivered in groups or in one-on-one setting. These courses are usually taught in Russian, though teachers can add English explanations when required. Many professors speak English.

    Students on individual programs work in one-on-one setting.

    Yes. Staying with Russian-speaking host families is the most popular lodging option among our students.

    We have implemented a system of selecting, vetting, instructing, and monitoring host families. They are our partners and provide valuable help in acquiring the language, traditions, and culture.

  • How can I secure my place?

    First of all, we need an application submitted through our website. Upon receiving the application, we will e-mail the student an acceptance confirmation letter.

    Then, we will open a personal student account in our IT system and send detailed instructions.
